The Women's Board of Lincoln Park Zoo

Formally established in 1976, the Women's Board of Lincoln Park Zoo is comprised of about 80 active members from Chicago and surrounding suburbs. The Women's Board was created and organized to provide supportive funds and service to The Lincoln Park Zoological Society and to aid the Society in its efforts to improve Lincoln Park Zoo.

Women's Board History & Facts

In the 1960s, 12 women pooled their talents in an organization that would become the Women’s Board, which was officially founded in 1976 with a mission to provide funds and service to he Lincoln Park Zoological Society. Today, we are approximately 120 women strong. Through our individual giving to the Annual Fund, the Women’s Board contributes nearly $200,000 each year to the zoo’s daily operations.

Zoo Ball, the grand gala hosted by the Women's Board since 1977, is the largest fundraising event for Lincoln Park Zoo, in addition to being "the party of the summer" in Chicago.

The Women's Board is committed to supporting Lincoln Park Zoo financially. Among the $26 million raised since our inception, we have contributed:

  • $3 million toward the Searle Visitor center

  • $500,000 toward Robert and Mayari Pritzker Penguin Cove

  • $500,000 toward Regenstein Macaque Forest

  • $2 million toward Nature Boardwalk at Lincoln Park Zoo

  • $1.5 million toward the Flamingo Habitat and its endowment

  • $1.5 million for the renovation of the East Gate Entry Plaza

  • $2 million in an endowment to Regenstein Center for African Apes
